Featured Critter
Willow
Willow, a juvenile white dove, came to us covered in feces which made her appear green. She's now a gorgeous white, happy girl who loves her food. She's just starting to coo, after being completely silent for the first two weeks. Willow has learned "Step Up", and will now sit on me for up to 1/2 an hour at a time. She's also enjoying the ability to stretch her beautiful wings. To see other critters in need of homes, click the "Adoptable Critters" button above.

Open Positions
The following positions are all crucial to the success of A Critter's Chance. We are in need of dedicated volunteers who are interested in helping us help the animals. If you are interested, please contact Michelle Manker at (317) 585-9036 or by email at acritterschanceinc@comcast.net.
- Wildlife Rehabilitation
Train to become a wildlife rehabilitator. Wildlife rehabilitators are dedicated to caring for sick, injured or orphaned Indiana native wildlife and returning them to their natural environment, where they belong. Wildlife are NEVER to be kept as pets, as it is illegal and very immoral and selfish. Wildlife rehabilitators are under strict guidelines from the Department of Natural Resources (where our permits come from), and we are expected to comply with all of the rules & regulations. This is very serious work, as wildlife rehabilitators are playing a key role in the survival of native Indiana wildlife, especially with all of the destruction of land (by the way, there is less than 3% of natural wetlands left in Indiana!!!!!!) This is why our work is so crucial, that is unacceptable!!!!! There are many opportunities for this. These positions will, again, work closely with Michelle Manker (President & Founder) of the organization, due to permit requirements, and will be screened and approved by her. This is a very rewarding opportunity, BUT it also takes extreme dedication, as even on holidays, birthdays, whatever, the animals still require your attention, they have no breaks, please consider this before applying!
- Foster Parents
We are in need of temporary foster homes for domestic animals, until they get adopted. This consists of medical care, socialization and adaptation to humans (as most of our rescues are neglected emotionally as well as physically). This could also consist of bringing animals to adoption events or programs. Please note, the animals being fostered are NOT native wildlife. If you are interested in caring for native wildlife, please see the wildlife rehabilitation position above.
- Development Committee Chairperson
This position will help establish other committees and help ensure the committees are run properly.
- Fundraiser Chairperson
Our long-term goal is to open a wildlife rehabilitation/animal rescue facility with a lot of land, meaning we need to raise a lot of money! We need someone dedicated to just raising funds. We want someone who is very creative (have a garage sale, bake sale, whatever, be creative!!!!!!!!!). We are very flexible, but need a committed person.
- Grant Writers
We are in need of people to research and write grant proposals. This would be a tremendous help to our organization. If you have some extra time and are skilled in this area, please consider helping us in this way.
- Education Program Assistant
Volunteer to go with us to various programs and help to educate the public about our animals and the care they require. Education is a vital key in animal rescue. Our organization believes strongly in educating the public on animal issues.
We educate the public on animal responsibility, as exotic pets have VERY specific needs & requirements, such as food, habitat, heating/lighting, etc. In some cases there are permits required. We will help match animals with people and determine if an animal is right for that particular situation. We also educate the public on wildlife issues/laws, such as: If an animal truly needs to be rescued, if so, how to help. Also, encroachment of humans on their land is devastating and sometimes it requires just a little creativity to learn to live alongside them. Human conflict is the number one cause of wildlife demise. We try to teach that there are other ways, besides killing or relocating (which is also devastating for them). We teach people how to establish backyard habitats and learn to co-exist with these beautiful creatures of the wild. They are willing to live next to us, why can’t we learn to be better neighbors to them, after all, it's our world, not just a human world!!! There are permit requirements under this position. This person will work very closely with Michelle Manker (President & Founder of ACC), as the permits are in her name, and she does all the educational training. - Trainers
These positions would train new volunteers in wildlife rehabilitation and fostering. These positions could also consist of keeping training materials up-to-date.
- Animal Transporters
We often have a need for volunteers to transport animals to the vet or from a shelter to a foster home. (You must have a valid driver's license in order to transport for us.)
- Other Volunteer Tasks
We are always in need of people to build cages & enclosures, nest boxes, etc. We could also use help getting donations of building supplies and other items we might need. If you don't have time to dedicate to one of the positions above, these would be good ways to help!
